About the
lab.
Student-led. Research-based. Made for teens. We turn skin research into clear, practical steps for prevention and awareness.
Meet the founder
Ramon
Batista.
I'm a high school student with a deep interest in dermatology — the science of skin, and how something as ordinary as sunlight can shape our long-term health.
I'm very fair-skinned and sunburn easily, so sun protection has never been optional for me. But I've noticed how few people my age take it seriously, even though skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States — and one of the most preventable.
I founded Teen Skin Lab to change that. My goal is to give teens clear, research-backed information, simple habits they'll actually keep, and the confidence to speak up when something on their skin doesn't look right.
“Sun protection has never been optional for me. I want it to be a habit for every teen.”
Our story
Why Teen
Skin Lab exists.
Teen Skin Lab started as Ramon's passion project in high school. Teens get flooded with skincare advice online — a lot of it confusing, some of it wrong, and very little of it about the thing that matters most: protecting your skin from sun damage and skin cancer.
In South Florida, strong sun is part of everyday life for teens — at practice, PE, the beach, and the pool. So Teen Skin Lab became a prevention program: free workshops taught by teens, free sunscreen where teens need it, a survey to measure what works, and a club built to keep going after its founder graduates.
How we work
Four
promises.
Clear
Plain language, no jargon without an explanation.
Cited
Every page lists its sources — mostly dermatology organizations and government health agencies.
Careful
We share education, not diagnoses. We always point you to a real professional for your own skin.
Kind
No shaming about acne, skin type, or skin tone. Everyone's skin deserves care.
Built to last
More than
one student.
A club
Student officers in every grade, so leadership passes down instead of disappearing at graduation.
A handbook
Workshop slides, handouts, and step-by-step guides any volunteer can pick up and use.
Stations that stay
Sunscreen dispensers that keep protecting people long after a workshop ends.
The team
Our team
is growing.
Teen Skin Lab is looking for students who want to lead workshops, make videos, and bring sun safety to more schools.
